World book Day

We loved coming to school dressed as our characters from our favourite books. We read a new story, The day the crayons quit; we pretended we were crayons and created speech bubbles giving reasons we couldn’t be used anymore and made fantastic pictures using crayons.

Exploring with the musical instruments

We were tapping out beats on the drums and the claves. We tried to copy different beats, we made loud sounds, quiet ones, fast ones, s!ow ones. It was really good fun.IMG_20160304_133039

World Book Day

Harry Potter, Katie Morag, Hairy Maclary, White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, Gangsta Granny and Mr Twit were just a few of the fantastic book day costumes.  Every class had a fun day reading Oliver Jeffer’s books and responding through drama, writing opportunities, Art work and music. My favourite Oliver Jeffer’s book is Lost and Found. Which do you prefer and why?

Our Nursery Challenge

In Nursery we had to work out how to help the police, somebody had hidden little people in ice! Our challenge was to work out how to get the little people out of the ice. YN had some very creative ideas – adding hot water, using hammers and holding the ice in our hands to melt it. Using the hammers was great fun and it worked!

Book Week – March 3rd

We are looking forward to seeing everyone dressed up as book characters on Thursday.

All of the classes have chosen an Oliver Jeffers book to study on the day. It would be great if all chidlren could find out about Oliver Jeffers.

An afternoon of clay!

Year 5 have been trying additive sculpture with clay. They had to research some local breeds of farm livestock and sketch them. Today they have started making their models. The proportion was quite tricky to get right. Coat texture and expression were fun to show. We will paint and varnish them next week.

Quest Club

Pupils in KS2 have been enjoying being part of QUEST club on Wednesdays learning more about the stories of Jesus and the Bible!

Manchester Airport

Year 2 visited Manchester Airport to watch the aeroplanes landing and taking off.  Amazingly, we were allowed to view Concorde and we asked lots of excellent questions.  Next, we role played being pilots, the airport chef, the airport police, the people who scare the birds, the air traffic control officers and the air stewards.  Everyone visited the flight deck to learn how to take off and land the plane; we went to some fantastic destinations!  We were lucky enough to watch the a380 land and whilst watching the planes land from the viewing mound we even got a wave from two pilots!  Our visit inspired us to do some of our best writing about our experience.  We thoroughly enjoyed the visit and we would love to visit again.  Most of us are now aspiring pilots and all want to have the opportunity to fly on Concorde.

Inter House Times Tables Challenge

This afternoon we have held our interhouse timestables challenge.  Each house was represented by a pupil from Year 3-6.  The children took part in individual rounds and group rounds with some challenging questions.  Each round was against the clock.  Congratulations to Middleton who won this year with a very impressive score. We hope that this event will continue to motivate our chidlren who have recieved their times tables certificates this week.  Do remember to keep learning your timestables!
