We invited our Parents and Grandparents to a Gardening Day

We had a brilliant gardening morning with our parents and Grandparents; we planted vegetables and flowers, we all planted a sunflower, we filled tights with compost and grass seed to make “grass heads” and finally we all shared a drink and some cake! We managed all this despite the hailstones! Thank you to everyone who helped, now we need the sun to shine to make it all grow!

Year 1 and their home projects

The children in Year 1 have worked really hard with their parents, to present an enormous range of home projects. We have a number of Noah’s Arks; bird nests; a crocodile nest; beautifully presented posters about Spring; weather diaries; an Arctic scene showing the weather at the North Pole and a Rainforest scene. It is always a joy to see the range and creativity of the work. Well done Year 1.

An Amazing Project Day – Thank you!

Year 5 have astounded us again by bringing in a whole range of very creative and imaginative pieces for our Project Day. Thank you to all you parents that have contributed, in various ways, to ensure that their curriculum is enriched with this sort of work.  I do apologise if they haven’t eaten much of their lunch today!  The cakes were outstanding. The facts and information they have learned is immense and our topic is now well under way.

Well done Year 5!

More super spellers

In year 4 we love to learn and practise our spellings in different, fun ways! One group are playing “headbands” to find clues to their spellings before they spell them!

Frogspawn

Just before the holidays Ted brought in some frogspawn from his pond. We made a small pond in our water tray using water from the school pond. We came back after the holidays to discover they had turned into tadpoles! We are checking them daily to see if they grow. .IMG_20160331_114304

Making boats in Reception

As part of our work in science week, we were trying to make boats that floated from tinfoil. It was tricky but we managed to do it and kept the marbles dry as well.IMG_20160314_101111

Year 5 and The Carnival of the Animals

As a finale to their topic about Animals, Year 5 have been listening to and appraising the Carnival of the Animals, composed in February 1886 by a French composer called Camille Saint – Saens. They had to try and identify which instruments were playing and how the animals were portrayed. After that they were asked to create their own musical score, with different animals. As a group, they then then performed it to the rest of the class, using a selection of chosen instruments. It was great fun and a wonderful end to a half-term packed with hard work!

Nursery Fire Station Visit

To finish our topic on “People who Help Us” we visited the Fire Station In Kirkby Lonsdale. We met Mr Bradshaw at the fire station; we watched the flashing lights and we listened to the sirens. The most exciting part was that we all got to sit in the fire engine and pretended to drive it!

Knowsley Safari Park

Year 3 had a wonderful trip to Knowsley Safari Park. They asked lots of interesting questions and saw some fantastic animals.
