Our Trip to Morecambe

The children in Nursery had a wonderful day at Morecambe. We visited the beach; we found crabs and shells, we built sand castles, we buried our feet in the sand and we dug holes. It was brilliant. For the second part of our trip we went to Happy Mount Park and we had a train ride. To end our day we had a delicious ice cream.

Science Experiment Fun…

In science, Year 5 are looking at ‘Materials and their Properties’. Today we have carried out an experiment to see which solids are soluble. They have had to plan their own fair test and select from  a range of materials and equipment, so building up their skills knowledge and understanding. The new test tubes and racks were very useful! The results will be recorded and conclusions will be made.

Year 5 Bikers

Year 5 have had another wonderful afternoon in the sunshine learning new bike skills. We have had two qualified instructors teaching them how to fit their own helmets; safety check their own bicycles and ride safely with great balance.

It is wonderful watching them enjoying developing skills which will help them for years to come.

Sorting money

We were learning all about coins . The boys were given the task to sort the coins into different groups, they used masking tape to divide the groups. They decided on 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p and then extra sections for the ones with shields on. They did a brilliant job and worked at it for a whole morning.IMG_20160607_114734

Sharks, jellyfish, starfish, crabs, rays, …

What a fantastic time we had in misty Blackpool!  Firstly, we dashed to the Sea Life Centre to find out about lots of sea creatures and their habitats and life cycles. Did you know sharks have seven senses? Can you open up a mussel before it’s cooked? Do you know what’s special about a starfish’s stomach? How many babies do sea horses have? If you had to be a sea creature, what would you be and why?

After that we had a ride on a tram, a seaside spotting walk along the pier and then a well deserved ice cream.

Queen’s Birthday Celebrations

In Nursery we made thrones, other children joined our class to help us build the thrones. We had some brilliant ideas about how to build a throne “fit for a Queen”! We celebrated the Queen’s 90th Birthday with cake and a drink!

Learning about multiplication

Year 1 have been using lots of apparatus to learn how to multiply. The x sign means ‘lots of.’ We have looked around the school for pictures of multiplications, called ‘arrays.’ For instance a bar of chocolate, an egg box, a piece of lego or a cup cake tin, can be used to show how a multiplication works eg 2 rows of chocolate with 5 segments in each row. We can count in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s and this helps us to work out how many segments of chocolate there are altogether. Year 1 are top mathematicians!
