Year 5 Slam Poetry Week

Year 5 have had a very busy week looking at ‘Slam Poetry’. Slam is an international phenomenon, involving poets writing and performing their poems in front of a panel of judges.  They are judged and scored on the poems style and the performance in delivery. The children have had to write three poems on a range of subjects, including some slang for dramatic effect and perform their poem to the class. We were lucky enough to get some seasonal inspiration with the beautiful frost this week.

There has been a knockout system in place, with the final being today. The quality of work was fantastic and all the children should be very proud of themselves. The winning result was a draw for James and Jack, who entertained us all with actions and onomatopoeia throughout each stage. Well done boys…international stage next!

Bonfire Night

We have made a fantastic firework splatter picture in Nursery. We threw paint on the black paper. we splatted with paint brushes and finally we added glitter. We have also made fireworks to hang in front of our picture and most importantly talked about how to stay safe on bonfire night.

Apple Crumble

We harvested our own apples and then used them to make apple crumble. There was lots of crumbing, chopping, peeling and finally eating!

Autumn

We’ve enjoyed spotting signs of Autumn. We’ve been catching Autumn leaves and naming them; sorting them; using the leaves to make patterns; using Autumn colours to inspire our art work and reading Percy Park Keeper stories.

Revolting Recipes

This week has been Book Week and we’ve been reading and watching Roald Dahl texts. We looked at his book of revolting recipes. We also made our own revolting recipes – some we could eating such as our jelly concoctions but some we definately couldn’t eat! We gave good instructions to make them e.g. sprinkle in some mud, add some bark and use a knobbly stick to stir!

The children have already made ghost soup, spider spaghetti and play dough pizza – Yuk! The children have loved dressing up with chef’s hats and aprons to create their Revolting Dishes.

Roald Dahl Book Week

Starting on the 17th October we are holding a full week of exciting activities to celebrate reading. Our theme throughout the week are books written by Roald Dahl. 2016 represents 100 since the birth of Roald Dahl. Each class will be celebrating a different Roald Dahl book and discovering about the author.

On Thursday 20th October we will be dressing up as a Roald Dahl character and straight after school the PTA will be hosting a KS1 and KS2 Film Night showing two Roald Dahl films.

Early Years Harvest

Rev Richard Snow has been with our Nursery and Reception class this week celebrating harvest. We retold the story of The Little Red Hen and then sang some Harvest songs and prayers.  Rev. Snow then taught us a new song saying thanks for the crops and we all performed a poem about our amazing world.  We are now all finding WOW things about our World!
