Well done to everyone who made such a great effort in our inter house cross country. Ingleborough won overall on this cloudy but dry day. The ground was soft resulting in muddy conditions. Well done to all of the children who made such a significant effort to run for their house. Below are the winners of each class. Well done!
What a time we had in London. Visiting and exploring the Houses of Parliament, meeting with Tim Farron, Leader of the Liberal Democrats and our MP and Chris Mason correspondent for the BBC, what a great experience! We also explored London including the London Eye, National Science Museum, and we took in various sights eg Kensington Palace, Albert Hall as well as the red carpet of the fashion awards. Good Memories!
Can you remember your favourite moment?
The visit really helped us understand democracy and our political system.
School Council have been debating this week about improvements to our school. We have agreed to spend £2000 on improving the infant play area. We will be buying two new houses for the playground.
School council will also be launching a competition to design a logo for the school council and take part in the South Lakes Pupil Parliament logo competition.
This week, Year 5 went down in to Kirkby Lonsdale to look at the famous ‘Ruskin’s View’. It was a very misty, murky day which added to the mystery and history. The children took watercolours and painted what they observed. The results which dramatic and impressive. Next week they will compare theirs to different landscape portraits.
On Wednesday 25th we are lucky enough to have the museum of Lakeland Life coming in to school. They will be talking to us about how photographers in the past have helped us understand changes in landscapes and lifestyle over the years. The children will look at the progress in local wool trade and artefacts connected to it. There will even be an opportunity to tie the two elements together and do some wool weaving on some twigs to mirror local landscapes.
Mrs Gill brought in her pat snake Reggie. We were fascinated by Reggie’s red tongue and eyes. When she got cold she tried to bury herself behind Mrs Gill’s ears. We asked some very interesting questions.
In Year 1 we have been telling lots of tales. We are very good at acting out the story of The Enormous Turnip and The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have to use BIG voices and think what a character might say. At the end of the story we give a bow or a curtsey and get a BIG round of applause. We are going to perform our stories for the Reception children.
We will be hosting our annual Juniors cross country race on Thursday. Please be prepared with kit and footwear and a determination to race for your house!
