World Book Day

We celebrated World Book Day by dressing in our pyjamas and onesies for a giant sleepover party, where we read bed time stories to each other. We also had a mass drawathon, where we drew our favourite story book characters. It was lovely to see all the children working together and we had a lovely afternoon.

Girl’s Science Club News!

KS2 girls have had the opportunity to sign up to an exciting new club at St Mary’s. It is aiming to stimulate enquiring minds and give girls the opportunity to participate in experiments and gain knowledge to aid the learning in class. Today the girls carried out some chemical reaction experiments and made a lovely lot of mess! They also looked at famous female scientists from the past and wondered how they could be more like them in the future. It is Science Week very soon and the girls are going to help run and organise special events throughout the week. Exciting times ahead!

Baby rabbits at half term

Mrs Smith thought that Year 5 would like to see their baby rabbits this week! They are being very mischievous and looking even cuter. Mr Smith can’t wait for them to come back to school due to the mess they make in his conservatory! Mrs Robinson will be enjoying the break from extra hovering while they are on holiday. Don’t worry Year 5, Mrs Smith has measured and weighed them for you this week; your graphs will be complete!

Early Years Forest Schools

In Nursery and Reception we have been working together in groups to build dens. The children had to work out how to fix the tarpaulins to the trees, they had to think about how to make the floor comfortable and finally they tried to make sure there were not any holes in their dens. The children were brilliant at explaining their ideas and at working together at their den building task.

Chinese New Year

Last week we celebrated the Chinese New Year – the year of the rooster. We had a go at writing the Chinese characters for numbers 1-10 using black paint on large pieces of paper. We ended the week with a celebration with YR; we did a dragon dance, played musical instruments and ate sweet and sour noodles with prawn crackers.

Exploring micro habitats

As part of our science topic on habitats, we decided to see what different habitats we could find up in the woods. We found a good variety of minibeasts, including slugs, worms, insect skeletons, centipedes and more. We sketched what we found in our new sketch books.
