Spring Music Concert

After a superb Easter Service this morning we have had a packed programme of events at the Easter concert. This was another chance within the year to gain a performance opportunity prior to the  Summer concert. Over 62 children took part today in the concert and various children were unable to play today who would normally have performed.  What a superb opportunity to celebrate the musical talent we have in school. Congratulations to all involved and thank you to our parents and family who attended to support the children. Thank you to Miss Loy and all of the music teachers who teach our children each week.

School Gardening – RHS Award

Well done to everyone at St Mary’s School. We have begun our journey to improving our grounds with a superb gardening extravaganza.  The plants we have begun to plant our beginning to leaf or flower as spring has sprung. Congratulations to everyone as not only have we achieved RHS Level One Gardening Award but we are well on the way to level two. Once again thank you to all of the parents and businesses who have generously supported us in making our school grounds a lovely place to learn and explore.

Making worm shapes

Recipe for worm shapes

Take some sand and mix it with paint, take a brush and make wiggles in the mixture. Now you have wonderful worm shapes!

Bird watching scientists

Some of the ‘Girl’s Science Club’ members have been enjoying identifying the birds that have moved in to the nest boxes around school. We put them up last week and they have been quickly resided in! Thank you to the parents that donated them; they will provide hours of entertainment! We look forward to watching how the activity will develop.

Science Fortnight!

Reception enjoyed Science week so much we extended it for another week. We had visits from the vet, Mrs Smith’s rabbits and Miss Robinson’s parrot. We made or role play area into a vets and then wrote instructions how to care for pets. We made them into a book and shared them with Y5. We found out how to make cheese from Jessica’s Mum, Lucy’s Dad told us all about milking sheep (we even got to taste it!) and Evie’s Dad brought in lots of seeds for us to plant (even some magic beans. Will they grow into a beanstalk with a giant at he top?)

Our garden open morning for parents and grandparents was amazing! Olly’s Mum brought in sunflower seeds for us to plant. The parents helped us dig over the flower beds and weed the sensory garden. We painted a pebble path and planted grass heads and grass caterpillars. The digging was so much fun and the parents deserved their thank you cakes!

Woodwork and constructing

We enjoy constructing in Reception. It might be indoors/outdoors and with large kits or small blocks. In the Spring half term, we’ve made junk box tractors and trailers or combine harvesters. Some of us were keen to make a wooden tractor with turning wheels and some children even included mud guards and air con! We also made large tractors outside from bales of straw and wooden bricks. This was inspired by Harry’sDad bringing in his tractor.
