R.S.E Consultation

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As you may be aware, The Department for Education has announced changes to Relationships and Sex
Education (RSE). Due to the current pandemic school have been given until the summer term to ensure that
their policy and curriculum are in place. All schools will be obligated to comply with the updated
requirements.

The new guidance focuses on healthy relationships and keeping children safe in the modern world. It also
covers a wide range of topics relating to physical and mental health, wellbeing, safeguarding and healthy
relationships.
Learning about the emotional, social and physical aspects of growing up will give children and young people
the information, skills and positive values to have safe, fulfilling relationships and help them take
responsibility for their own well-being.
This means, that alongside everything else, we have been in the process of reviewing our RSE curriculum and
policy so we can be sure our provision meets the Government criteria and is appropriate for our children
based on their:
 Age
 Physical and emotional maturity
 Religious and cultural backgrounds
 Special educational needs and/or disabilities
and what pupils need to know to be healthy and safe in school, in their personal relationships and in the
wider world.

I would very much welcome your support and comment, and am pleased to provide a Parent and Guardian
Consultation period which will start today and end on June 30th.

Here’s how you can help:

Please read the following:
1) A copy of our school policy for consultation. Within our policy there is a summary of what all pupils
are expected to have been taught by the end of each year group.
2) Government guidance on the teaching of RSE

Your views are very important to us and we will respond to you on the outcome of this process later this
term. Once we have considered all the feedback, the finalised Relationships and Sex Education Policy will be
uploaded to the school’s website which will also set out the proposed curriculum.

If you have any queries or concerns regarding the consultation process, please do not hesitate to contact the
school.
Thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards, Mr Jones
